Are you attending the drop-ins?

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1. Have conversations with anyone that will listen about the group, encourage them to join

2. Try to be non-party political because I can’t see this threat going away no matter who is in No10

3. Keep on message (campaigns are successful when they are simple and consistent)

4. GET A BRILLIANT TURNOUT FOR THE DROP INS, LET THEM KNOW WE MEAN BUSINESS

THE MESSAGE:

1. Acknowledge that a GDF has to be built somewhere just not here.

(By acknowledging this point in the opening sentence of a conversation it disarms them and gives you the upper hand. It is the same as saying “yes your’re right but…)

2. The only concrete offering we have had is £1m per year. We can’t be bought for £27 each ( a take away and a few pints). This keeps it concrete and belittles their offering

3. We have no evidence that any benefit will come directly to South Holderness

4. South Holderness is not geologically unique, The GDF could be in many places

according to the government’s own report.

5. We don’t have the infrastructure to safely move the materials

6. The area is subject to flooding and with global warming we will be underwater in places

(See the post Is flooding a risk to a GDF?)

7. We have the fastest rate of coastal erosion here outside of Norfolk, 1-3 metres a year

Remember: Keep it simple, be polite, but don’t let them divert you. They have probably had loads of training in how to manage persausive conversations ( we haven’t YET)
